The clock is ticking toward the deadline for anyone who has ever dreamed of being a personal support worker (PSW) to enroll in Fanshawe College’s tuition-free accelerated program.
Classes for the PSW program begin on June 6.
The program is a mix of 14 online and in-person courses and is being offered on a condensed schedule that will see students graduate with an Ontario College Certificate in only six months. That includes a paid work placement in the final three months. Tuition and other program expenses, such as textbooks, are being covered by the college.
The aim of the tuition-free accelerated program is to get more people trained as PSWs to meet a provincewide shortage in the field.
“Personal support workers are essential members of health care teams for thousands of Ontarians,” Susan Cluett, acting dean of the college’s faculty of health, community studies and public safety, said in a statement. “The demand continues to grow, and our graduates will be prepared to provide high-quality, compassionate care in the health care and long-term care sectors.”
The program is being offered to domestic students at the college’s campuses in London, Simcoe, St. Thomas, Woodstock, and Clinton. To apply go to ontariocolleges.ca.
