Teen charged after shots fired in east London

A day after gunshots rang out in east London, more than half a dozen firearm-related charges have been laid against a 16-year-old.

London police were called by a citizen who heard what sounded like gunfire in the area of Edmonton Street and Hilton Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Officers flooded the neighbourhood and found evidence that a weapon had been fired.

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, was arrested.

Police say a 20-gauge pump-action shotgun, a replica handgun, and various shotgun shells were seized by police.

No injuries were reported, police said.

The London teen has been charged with eight offences including possession of a firearm without a licence, careless use/handling/storage of a firearm, careless careless use/handling/storage of ammunition, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, and reckless discharge of a firearm. He is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges on Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

This was the seventh time this year police have been called to investigate possible gunfire. In the two most recent incidents late last month, shots were heard during a disturbance on Richmond Street, south of Piccadilly Street. A man later showed up in hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Police have yet to make an arrest in that case. Two days prior to that shooting, officers were called to the area of Richmond and Kent streets where they found evidence a firearm had been fired. No injuries were reported and charges were laid against four people.
