Ontario Opposition leader Andrea Horwath says the Ford Government’s budget calls for $2.7 billion in cuts over the next few years. The NDP leader responded Friday to the budget tabled on Thursday.
“Instead of fixing our seniors care, instead of getting rid of that low wage policy of Doug Ford’s, that’s the kind of things people wanted to see in their budget yesterday. But it wasn’t there. Instead they focused on making sure that their big buddies are going to be able to get what they need, with big boondoggles that are going to cost billions of dollars,” said Horwath.
“The Ford Government made things worse for folks. I mean things are harder than they were four years ago for every day families. Everything’s going up in terms of costs and expenses. The thing that’s not going up is people’s pay cheques. So people are struggling. But at the same time Steven Del Duca and Kathleen Wynne left us with a hospital system where people were waiting in hallways for care,” she added.
The NDP leader said the budget would cut 70,000 PSWs, and 29,000 nurses, instead of fixing a healthcare system that is already on its knees.
“At a time when we need to be not only recruiting, and retaining, and returning people that Doug Ford has already pushed out of healthcare, because of his low wage policy, bill 124, we have to shore up our seniors care system as well, and make sure people have the things that they need,” she continued.
