The COVID-19 vaccination clinic at White Oaks Mall won’t be closing its doors any time soon.
The Middlesex London Health Unit announced on Monday that it intends to keep the walk-in clinic at the south London mall open until the end of May.
More than 600 doses of the vaccine have been administered at the clinic since it re-opened on April 7, with just under 100 people filing through each day. The high uptake led to the health unit’s decision to extend the clinic’s run beyond the end of April.
“The continued success of this mall-based clinic has shown that providing the COVID-19 vaccine in a convenient way is an effective strategy for reaching people who may not be able to attend mass vaccination clinics,” said Dr. Alex Summers, the region’s medical officer of health. “We are grateful for the continued partnership with White Oaks Mall to be able to make the COVID-19 vaccine more accessible to those across our community.”
Health officials have stated having the clinic located within the mall reduces barriers to accessing the vaccine such as convenience, availability, and transportation challenges.
This is the second time the health unit has run the clinic in White Oaks Mall. Between September 14 and October 10, nearly 6,000 doses.
The clinic is located next to the Tim Hortons near the food court and can be accessed through the mall’s east entrance, near RBC. It is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Its last scheduled day in operation is set for May 28.
Vaccination figures released by the health unit last week, show 93.7 per cent of area residents aged 12 and older have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 91.7 per cent in the same age bracket have had two doses. Third doses have been administered to 56 per cent of area residents.
