Kincardine Fire & Emergency Services reminds residents importance of water safety

Kincardine Fire & Emergency Services are reminding residents not to use the closed South Pier.

This alert was posted to their social media following an incident on the weekend, when they say three people were seen swimming at the closed site.

The pier is undergoing repairs, and is closed for the safety of the public and those working on it.

Officials say their bodies began to quickly go into shock due to the cold temperature and two individuals made it out on their own. The third struggled, and 9-1-1 was called with OPP, EMS and Fire & Emergency Services responding to the emergency rescue.

Kincardine Fire & Emergency Services is asking the community to “use common sense”, and check the surroundings for “No Swimming Signs”, water temperature, and water conditions.

Officials say that the municipality of Kincardine takes water safety very seriously, and urge residents to do the same.
