Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker recently announced the province is investing money into local skills development initiatives.
The funding is being provided through the Skills Development Fund, with just over 3.6 million dollars coming to two local projects. The Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium of Canada (EMC) and the Owen Sound Family YMCA are both getting money, with EMC “proposing Expanding Skills and Paths to Employment for Youth in Advanced Manufacturing.” The release states this project “will specifically address these industry needs and demands for increasing the future supply to the manufacturing workforce.” Meanwhile, YMCA will “coordinate and support the training of 22 Incumbents and 22 Job seekers through Personal Support Worker training.”
The Skills Development Fund has given over 200 million dollars to local projects that aim to “address challenges to hiring, training, or retraining workers during the pandemic.”
“Thank you to both EMC and the Owen Sound Family YMCA for implementing these programs, which will help local residents improve their skills,” says Walker. “This is a great program that makes a real difference in our communities and I want to thank Minister McNaughton for his continued support.”
