A trustee is hoping to make the jump to provincial politics.
Thames Valley District School Board trustee Corrine Rahman is running for the Ontario Liberal nomination in London-Fanshawe. The race will be decided on Saturday.
“I’ve been a strong advocate for many issues as it relates to public education, healthcare and especially around issues of making life more affordable,” Rahman said on The Craig Needles Podcast on Monday. “In 1999, when Mike Harris went to the people of Ontario for a second term, as a province we had already experienced some considerable change, and that change had profound impact on the province of Ontario.”
“When I thought about putting my name forward, I thought about when Mike Harris asked for a second term and how similar it is to what’s happening now with Doug Ford asking for a second term.”
Rahman was first elected as a trustee in Wards 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 four years ago. She has also taught at Fanshawe College and worked at London City Hall.
The riding is currently represented by New Democrat MP Teresa Armstrong, who first won the seat in 2011.
In the 2018 election, she won with a plurality – garnering 55.68% of the votes cast. Armstrong is running for re-election, while Jane Kovarikova is running for the Progressive Conservatives.
Rahman was a guest on the Craig Needles Podcast on Monday.
