New OPG recycling centre preparing for excavation

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is waiting for their building permit to start construction on the new Western Clean Energy Sorting and Recycling Centre in Kincardine.

The OPG says earth-moving equipment is now on site at the Bruce Energy Centre in Kincardine, and ready to excavate for the foundation.

A formal ground-breaking ceremony took place at the site in December, but the real work will get underway this spring. The centre is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Once up and running, the new facility will enhance sorting of low-level radioactive materials from OPG nuclear operations to reduce the environmental footprint of storage facilities at the Bruce nuclear site.

The 42,000-square-foot nuclear materials sorting facility will employ about 25 people.
