Canadian film making “big splash” to be screened at Blue Mountain Film Festival

The Blue Mountain Film Festival is hoping to captivate live audiences this summer with a selection of excellent independent films this summer.

Passes are now on sale for the five-day event that is to take place in June, which Executive and Artistic Director Helen du Toit says is a chance for filmmakers and film lovers to come together and enjoy everything the world of cinema has to offer.

du Toit says “We are trying to find ways for people to come together over their passion for cinema. Regular cinema tends to be focused on large commercial films, but this festival will highlight some of the world’s best independent cinema.”

She noted that the atmosphere of the festival is expected to be quite intimate, noting “we’re not going V.I.P. or fancy-pants. We want there to be something in this for everybody, very accessible and where audiences and filmmakers can enjoy each other’s company and share this passion.”

Submissions are closed, and du Toit refused to confirm any titles for the festival until May, but she did tell CKNX “I guess I can give you a little tease in terms of which films we’re going to play….There is a Canadian film that has recently made a big splash. It’s not from the usual places in Canada, it’s from much further afield, a place that you wouldn’t go. It’s also a bit of a genre mashup. I can’t hint any further than that or you or someone in your audience will guess.”

The Blue Mountain Film Festival is scheduled to run June 1st-5th.

Early bird passes and more information on the festival can be found at BlueMtnFilmFest.ca.
