Charges have been laid against a 34-year-old man after a woman was assaulted and two kids held against their will at a home in Aylmer.
Aylmer police were called about a violent dispute at a home on Talbot Street West just before 11 p.m. on Friday. Officers determined an argument between a couple escalated with the man punching the woman in the back of the head. He then physically forced the woman out of the home and locked the door.
The woman tried to get her two kids, an 8-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, to come outside with her. But the man would not let them leave the home, police said.
When officers arrived, the man allegedly became belligerent and challenged them while holding on to a machete.
“Officers were able to deescalate the situation and male turned himself in to the police without incident,” police said.
An Aylmer man has been charged with spousal assault, assault, forcible confinement of a child under 16, mischief under $5,000, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
