Short story submissions being accepted for Alice Munro Festival

The deadline to submit your writing to the Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story is fast approaching.

Contest Coordinator, Jim Seale, says the contest is open to almost anyone in Canada.

“One of the things that set this short story contest apart from others is that we are looking specifically for unpublished authors, which really levels the playing field.”

Seale says there are lots to love about the festival, like the adult and youth story contest, writing workshops, among other literacy programs

“My favourite part about working on the festival is being able to read all of the different stories from unpublished authors. Because they’re unpublished, I feel like there’s a wider variety of the types of stories that we get.”

He encourages everyone to submit their stories, and not let the fear of losing keep you from trying.

“You never know if you’re going to be the one who wins, but you have a zero percent chance if you don’t submit. Put yourself into the story, make it original, and just try your best. You will be glad that you spent the time creating something.”

The adult short story contest features a grand prize of $1,500, and the youth contest’s grand prize is $500.

The deadline to submit your story is March 15th.

The festival is set for June 4th to 6th.
