Fire breaks out on eleventh floor balcony

London fire officials say garbage on a balcony caught ablaze at a downtown apartment building Monday evening.

The fire broke out sometime before 8 p.m. on the eleventh floor of the high-rise located at 241 Simcoe Street. Flames and smoke were seen several blocks away from building as crews worked to contain the fire.

Firefighters remained on scene after to ventilate the hallway of the building. The fire department said the fire erupted after rubbish left out on the balcony ignited.

No injuries were reported and a damage estimate has not been determined.
