Coldest Night of the Year campaign blankets the region on Saturday

The Coldest Night of the Year campaign falls on Saturday, February 26th, with many local initiatives planned.

It’s the first time North Huron is hosting an event, with the inaugural Wingham walk. Registration starts at 3:30 and the routes begin at Libro Credit Union. Or, walk anytime in between February 21st and 28th, on a route of your choice anywhere in North Huron. The goal is to raise $35,500 for the planned Northern Huron Connection Centre to offer services addressing homelessness.

The Goderich event starts and ends at the Royal Canadian Legion. Check in begins at 4:30 p.m. or walk anytime virtually with a route of your choice, in any of the surrounding areas such as Auburn, Clinton or Seaforth. Their goal is to raise $94,000 to support the Huron Homelessness Initiative.

Exeter’s event will begin at the Christian Reformed Church, with registration at 4 p.m. or you could walk anytime in February on a route of your choice, in Bayfield, Grand Bend, Zurich, or Hensall. Their goal is to raise $64,750, also in support of the Huron Homelessness Initiative.

In North Perth, meet at 754 Main St E, Listowel for registration at 3:45 p.m. Or, you can walk anytime from February 21-28 on a route of your choice anywhere in North Perth. Their goal is to raise $75,000 to support the North Perth Connection Centre.

In Stratford, the walk begins at Upper Queen’s Park Bandshell with registration at 4 p.m. Their goal is to raise $126,000 to support Stratford/Perth Shelterlink.

In St. Marys, participants will meet at 317 James St. South for registration at 2:45 p.m. Or, you can walk anytime between February 21 – 28 on a route of your choice anywhere in St. Marys and Perth South.
Their goal is to raise $53,500 to support the Community Developer and Nourish Market.

In Owen Sound, the walk will be only virtual, with participants asked to self-organize their own local team and complete their own route this year. They’re raising money for the Safe n’ Sound Residence, with a goal of $40,000.

CNOY is a moment each year when tens of thousands of Canadians step outside the warmth and comfort of home to shine a light on the issue of homelessness. This event has raised over $43,500,000 in 149 communities across Canada since it began in 2011.
