New COVID-19 cases reported across Midwestern Ontario on Friday

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is reporting 59 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, 13 of which are in Wellington County, where there are 128 active cases. Six facilities are experiencing outbreaks, including Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville and Royal Terrace in Palmerston. To date, 47 Wellington County residents have died due to COVID-19.

Huron Perth Public Health is reporting 38 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Two residents are in hospital due to the virus. TO date, 91 residents have died to COVID-19. There are four active outbreaks in Huron Perth.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is reporting 32 new infections on Friday, with 151 active cases. Six residents are currently hospitalized with the virus, and 30 deaths have occurred in Grey Bruce, while nine additional deaths related to Grey Bruce residents have occurred outside of the region, and one death related to a Grey Bruce resident that acquired the infection and was treated outside of Grey Bruce.

Across Ontario, 2,907 new lab-confirmed cases were reported on Friday, though that is an underestimate of the true widespread transmission of the virus due to recent testing restrictions.

There are 1,829 people in hospitals, 54% of them were admitted due to the virus while 46% were admitted for other reasons, but have tested positive for COVID-19.

There are 435 people in intensive care with COVID-19. 80% were admitted because of COVID-19, while approximately 20% were admitted for other reasons.
