Attempted murder charge laid in incident that sent two to hospital

A day after two people were sent to hospital, one with critical injuries, following an incident at a northwest London home, a charge of attempted murder has been laid.

Emergency crews were called to the home on Whetherfield Street near Beaverbrook Avenue around 9 a.m. on Thursday. A 52-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman were found injured at the home. Both were taken to hospital. The woman has since been released, but the man remains in life-threatening condition, London police said on Friday.

A 24-year-old man was arrested following a brief search of the area immediately after police arrived on scene. That man is now charged with attempted murder and assault with a weapon. His name is not being released as doing so could potentially identify the victims, police said.

It was noted the accused and victims are known to each other.

Police have not released any additional information about what may have transpired at the home, including what type of weapon was used in the attack.

The 24-year-old man remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
