Midwestern Ontario COVID-19 cases grow

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is reporting 24  new infections Monday. There are at least 208 active cases. 12 residents are currently hospitalized with the virus. To date, 20 deaths have been reported due to COVID-19.    

Nine facilities are experiencing outbreaks. These include Grey Bruce Health Services – Wiarton Site, Rockwood Terrace Long Term Care – Durham, Errinrung Nursing Home –Thornbury, Errinrung Retirement Home – Thornbury, McVean Lodge – Hanover, Parkview Manor – Chesley, Mapleview Long-Term Care Home – Owen Sound,  Summit Place – Owen Sound, Season’s Owen Sound. 

Huron Perth Public Health is reporting 108 new cases since Friday, and at least 1,294 active cases. Nine residents are hospitalized due to the virus. To date, 79 residents have died because of the virus. There are 11 active outbreaks in Huron Perth. 

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported 285 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, 103 of which are in Wellington County, where there are 269 active cases. 44 residents are currently hospitalized with the virus. To date, 42 Wellington County residents have died due to the virus.

18 facilities are experiencing outbreaks, including Caressant Care – Fergus, Caressent Care – Harriston, and Birmingham Retirement Community – Mount Forest. . 

There are 615 patients in intensive care in Ontario due to COVID-19 and 3,861 patients hospitalized in total. Health Minister Christine Elliott notes that not all hospitals report weekend data.

Thirty-seven more people have died from the virus. Ontario reported 4,790 new COVID-19 cases today but Public Health Ontario has said the actual number is higher because of changes to the province’s testing policy.
