Police officer assaulted during disturbance at homeless shelter

A disturbance at a St. Thomas homeless shelter ended with a police officer being assaulted and a 35-year-old man charged.

Police were called to the unnamed shelter on Monday night where staff asked that an individual be removed for not following the facility’s procedures.

The man became agitated and began kicking at officers, police said.

No one was hurt and the man was arrested.

A 35-year-old St. Thomas man is charged with causing a disturbance, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, and breach of probation.
