COVID-19 continues to spread in Midwestern Ontario

Hundreds of new COVID-19 cases were added in Midwestern Ontario Thursday.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit reported 132 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. There were 24 in Owen Sound, 15 in Hanover, 13 in Grey Highlands, 13 in West Grey, nine in Brockton, nine in Kincardine, eight in South Bruce Peninsula, seven in The Blue Mountains, six in South Bruce, five in Arran-Elderslie, four in Meaford, four in Southgate, three are Unknown, three in Neyaashiinigmiing, three in Northern Bruce Peninsula, three in Saugeen Shores, two in Huron-Kinloss, and one in Georgian Bluffs. There are 720 active cases, and six residents are hospitalized. there have been 25 deaths due to COVID-19 amongst residents of Grey Bruce.

Huron Perth Public Health added 106 new cases Thursday, for a total of 1,072 active cases. Six residents are hospitalized with the virus. One more resident died due to COVID-19 for a total of 76 fatalities in Huron Perth due to the virus. Huron Perth Public Health officials are no longer reporting case counts for individual communities.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public health reports 14 residents hospitalized with COVID-19, and 166 new cases. 47 of the new cases were located in Wellington County, where there are 608 active cases.  There are 62 active cases in Wellington North, 35 in Minto and 42 in Mapleton.

The province reported 13,339 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, with 2,279 in hospital. 20 more deaths related to COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours.
