The Elgin County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested an individual in connection with a fatal shooting.
Elgin OPP, alongside the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), said they responded to a shooting incident at a residence on North Street in Sparta at 6:50 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
An injured man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said in a statement.
The identity of the victim is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.
As a result of the investigation, 36-year-old Devon Vandendriessche, of Central Elgin has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
He is expected to appear in court on January 7 at the Elgin County Courthouse.
