Man charged after London police officer assaulted during bizarre standoff

A London man is charged after police say an individual refused to leave a property and assaulted a police officer.

Police say it was about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday when officers responded to a business in the 1100 block of Brydges Street after reports of a man refusing to leave after being directed to do so.

When officers arrived at the scene, police say they were told that the suspect was refusing to allow company vehicles to enter or leave the property by standing directly in the laneway of the business.

Officers spoke with the man for a long time, but he refused to move from his location, police say.

While police attempted to arrest the man, he “actively resisted the officers, and a struggle ensued,” police said, adding that one officer sustained minor injuries.

The suspect didn’t sustain any physical injuries, police said.

As a result of the investigation, a man, 34 from London is charged with two of assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and mischief under $5,000.

The accused was scheduled to appear in London court on Jan. 15.

Woman charged in theft of $80K trailer

A 27-year-old is charged after police in Lambton County say they recovered a stolen camping trailer worth $80,000.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers raided a property on Plank Road in Sarnia on Tuesday, when they “recovered and seized” a 2023 Salem trailer that had been reported stolen earlier in November by its owner in Warwick Township.

It’s worth an estimated $80,000 police said.

A 27-year-old Sarnia woman is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 2.
