Southgate woman charged with attempted murder

A 56-year-old Southgate woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly poisoning another person.

West Grey police issued a statement on Saturday outlining the timeline of their investigation:

On Thursday, members of the Uniform and Criminal Investigations Branch reportedly received information regarding a female who had intentionally poisoned another person with the intent to cause death.

The next day, police say a search warrant was obtained and executed in relation to the allegations.

As a result of the investigation, West Grey police arrested a woman from the Township of Southgate charging her with attempted murder and administering a poisonous substance.

Police believe this was a targeted crime and there is no threat to the public.

The accused remains in custody and is awaiting a Bail Hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice.
