Province gives 16 southwestern Ontario non-profits $2M boost

Over a dozen non-profit organizations in southwestern Ontario are getting a more than $2 million financial boost from the province.

Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton and Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Rob Flack announced the $2,034,100 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s resilient communities fund on Wednesday. The money will be used to help the 16 local non-profits to hire and train new staff, upgrade facilities, and introduce new programming and vital services.

“Whether it’s hosting social events and exercise classes for seniors, helping those who are less fortunate, or giving children memories that will last a lifetime, non-profits are indispensable to our way of life in southwestern Ontario,” said McNaughton. “Our government will continue to make historic investments in community organizations, so they can offer improved services for the people who rely on them most.”

The two largest grants are going to Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre and Growing Chefs!, a London-based organization that offers a variety of food education programs for kids. The activity centre is getting $221,300 while Growing Chefs! will receive $200,000.

The other non-profits benefiting from this grant include Camp Kee-Mo-Kee in Komoka, The Grand Theatre in London, Hutton House in London, the YMCA St. Thomas-Elgin, and North Lambton Community Health Centre.
