Charges laid in hit and run that injured motorcyclist

A 58-year-old St. Thomas man has been charged one month after he allegedly collided with a motorcyclist and left the scene.

On April 4 around 7 p.m., emergency crews were called to the intersection of John Wise Line and Quaker Road in Central Elgin, where a motorcyclist had been hurt.

Police said the 24-year-old biker was sent to hospital with serious, life threatening injuries.

The other vehicle involved in the collision had left the area before officers arrived, police said. It was last seen travelling northbound on Quaker Road.

As a result of the Elgin County OPP investigation, a St. Thomas resident was charged on Tuesday with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to yield to traffic, and operating a vehicle while prohibited.

The accused will appear in St. Thomas court on June 27.
