Stratford Police caution scammers are claiming to be Crown Attorney

Stratford Police Service is warning residents of a potential scam that is using the address of the local Crown Attorney’s office.

According to police, the scammers contact victims posing as an Amazon employee. They inform the victim that a crime has been committed and transfer them to speak with an attorney, who then requests personal information and money be sent.

The fraudsters are using the phone number for the local Crown Attorney’s office, as well as giving out their names.

Officials remind residents that many scams involve phone spoofing (displaying false info to make the call appear legitimate).

Police say no government agency will ever contact you by phone requesting money or personal info.
