Suspect in vehicle theft caught after day-long search in Centre Wellington

A 31-year-old Toronto man was arrested after a manhunt near Centre Wellington on Thursday.

On April 13, around 8 a.m., Grand River Conservation Authority approached a suspicious vehicle at the entrance of the Belwood Lake Conservation Area. They said the driver fled into a wooded area.

Wellington OPP attended, along with the ERT and canine unit and confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen.

Units conducted a search of the area for the suspect.

Around 11:30 p.m., police responded to a residence on Fourth Line where items had reportedly been stolen from a clothesline. Officers located the suspect nearby, the same man from the stolen vehicle investigation earlier that day.

The man faces charges including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, trespassing at night and theft under $5,000. The accused has been held for bail.

OPP is continuing to investigate and anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.
