Officers from the Elgin County OPP have taken a suspect into custody after a police cruiser was struck at the OnRoute Service Centre in Dutton-Dunwich.
Around 3:15 a.m. on Thursday, police say they received a tip regarding a stolen vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401. The vehicle was reportedly involved in a robbery in Tilbury.
Less than an hour later, an Elgin County OPP officer found the vehicle at the OnRoute. When the police tried to interact with the people inside the vehicle, the driver allegedly struck a marked OPP cruiser and fled the scene. There were no injuries.
The stolen vehicle was discovered abandoned on Pioneer Line in Dutton-Dunwich, according to police. OPP uniformed officers, the canine unit, and emergency response team searched the area and located one of two suspects. The individual is now in custody of Chatham-Kent police.
The second suspect has not been located, but police say there is no threat to public safety.
