More donations needed for Business Cares Food Drive

With only a few days left in this year’s Business Cares Food Drive, organizers say more donations are needed to help Londoners who struggle with food insecurity.

The 23rd annual Business Cares campaign wraps up at 8 a.m. on December 21. Until then, the organization will eagerly accept non-perishable food items and monetary contributions.

For the third year in a row, there was no goal set for the 2022 food drive. The organization previously said they will graciously accept any donations the community can provide. Campaign Chair Wayne Dunn says their philosophy has not changed, even if the food drive comes up shorter than expected.

“We know this is a challenging time for many in our community, so we ask people to only give what they can and only if they can,” Dunn said.

Back on December 1, the Business Cares Food Drive kicked off with an event at RBC Place. At the event, Dunn spoke to the increased need at the London Food Bank this holiday season. He said demand was up 32 per cent from the same time last year.

“The reality is that with the uncertainty of the current economic environment and inflation upon us, we expect continued increasing needs at the food bank over the coming months,” Dunn explained.

There is still time to make a contribution to the Business Cares Food Drive. The campaign will end on December 21. Before then, food, cash, and cheque donations can be dropped off at the Business Cares headquarters at the Western Fair Agriplex. Pick-ups will also be offered on December 19 and 20. However you choose to donate, please call 519-661-9803 to make arrangements.

Monetary donations can also be made online on the Business Cares website.
