Owen Sound to hand out 2022 Arts and Cultural Awards

The City of Owen Sound’s 2022 Arts and Cultural Awards will take place this Sunday, May 1. Nominees include musicians, visual artists, performers, and both new and long-established organizations and events.

The free event will be held at the Georgian Bay Centre for the Arts in Owen Sound’s River District and is open to the public. The reception begins at 2 p.m. and includes light snacks and a cash bar. Coco Love Alcorn, a local and well-known Canadian musician, will serve as the emcee for the afternoon and performers will include local musician Drew McIver as well as Emerging Artist nominee Paige Warner. Guests will also enjoy a few songs from the upcoming play Matilda Jr., compliments of The Roxy Theatre Youth Team.

A release from the city said The Owen Sound Arts and Cultural Awards are presented bi-annually by the City of Owen Sound. Individual award sponsors include Zehrs Market, Capes Engineering and GSS Engineering. All award winners receive a custom, locally made wooden bowl handcrafted by Ron Ball. The winner of the Emerging Artist award also receives a $500 cash prize. A special thank you to our jury who are comprised of previous event winners, for volunteering their time to score this year’s awards.

“These awards are a great celebration of Owen Sound’s vibrant local arts scene. Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees and winners, and thank you for enriching and inspiring our community through arts and culture,” said Mayor Ian Boddy.
