Owen Sound Council has approved the 2022 City Services Budget and Capital Plan that brings a combined overall property tax increase , including the County and School Board, of 2.46%. For the average home in Owen Sound valued at $235,000, this means an extra $102 per year or $8.50 per month.

A media release from the city said the budget maintains the services that citizens rely on, while making the best possible use of grants and external funding to invest in critical infrastructure projects. It said the budget continues Council’s work toward fulfilling the Strategic Plan Refresh, and upholds their commitment to resilient and forward-thinking financial management.

The 2022 Budget includes $32.5 million in tax-supported funding. The 2022 Capital program includes more than 70 projects to improve the city’s roads, facilities, downtown core, and more. The Capital Budget totalling $15.5 million takes advantage of $7 million in grants and partnership funding in 2022, doubling every dollar contributed by taxpayers

The city says their redesigned budget book tells the story of the city’s finances, while highlighting the work completed in 2021.

“As always, the budget has been a collaborative process between staff and Council, with the needs of our residents guiding the way. As we continue through the upcoming year and the ongoing pandemic, this budget will support our resiliency and maintains Council’s commitment to fiscal responsibility,” said Mayor Ian Boddy.
