London police are investigating an attempted robbery at a jewelry store in the southwest end of the city that caused $10,000 in damages.

It was about 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday when police say four men wearing dark clothing and masks exited a white SUV in the 400-block of Wharncliffe Road South. That area would be located near the Wharncliffe-Emery Street intersection, just west of London’s Old South neighbourhood.

The four men attempted to force their way into a jewelry store by damaging the business’s exterior window, but couldn’t get in and drove away in the white SUV, police said.

About an hour later, officers were told an SUV fitting the description of the suspect vehicle was seen driving dangerously near Tillsonburg, about a 30-minute drive southeast of London, and fled from police there.

No injuries were reported and the damage to the London business was estimated at about $10,000, police said on Wednesday.

Investigators are appealing to members of the public who may have been in the area at the time of the attempted robbery, or who may have dashboard-camera or surveillance footage, to contact London police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

TEEN CHARGED AFTER VEHICLES DAMAGED

A London teenager is charged after two vehicles were damaged Tuesday evening, police said.

It was just after 9:30 p.m. when police said three teenagers got into an argument on Dalhousie Crescent, near the intersection of Wonderland and Southdale roads.

An expandable baton was used to damage the windows of vehicles belonging to two of the teens, police said. Damage was pegged at about $2,000 for each vehicle, police said. The suspect was known to one of the victims, police said.

A 17-year-old from London is charged with two counts of mischief under $5,000 and is slated to appear in court on Feb. 18.
