The Owen Sound Fire Department evacuated a 20-unit Grey County Housing complex in the city while it battled a fire Saturday afternoon.

According to a release, fire crews responded to the Rockview Apartments on 7th Avenue East just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters contained the fire to the unit of origin with help from the Intertownship Fire Department.

The fire is said to have started in the unit’s kitchen area, due to unattended cooking, and spread to the rest of the apartment. There was no damage estimate available on Saturday.

Grey County housing staff assisted displaced residents at the scene.

According to the county’s website, the Rockview Apartments has 20 bachelor apartments.
