Another local emergency department set to temporarily shut down

Another local emergency department will be shutting down for a night.

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance has confirmed that the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Emergency Department will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 27. It will re-open on Sunday, May 28 at 7 a.m., at which time full 24-hour operation will resume. The HPHA says in a statement that the closure is due to “sudden health human resource shortages.”

Anyone requiring immediate medical attention should call 9-1-1. Paramedics will remain available to the community and will re-route to the nearest available Emergency Department to ensure local residents continue to have access to the emergency services they need.

For non-urgent health care, call Health Connect Ontario at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health related questions.

The closest 24-hour Emergency Departments to the St. Marys Memorial Hospital are:
-Stratford – HPHA – Stratford General Hospital
-Exeter – South Huron Hospital*
-Ingersoll – Alexandra Hospital*
-London – LHSC– University Hospital or Victoria Hospital

*It is advised to check with these Emergency Departments before attending to ensure they are operating with regular hours.
