London police say three men face charges relating to a string of incidents last fall in which residents reported individuals looking through unlocked mailboxes.
In early December 2022, members of the London Police Service’s Financial Crime Section launched an investigation after receiving several similar reports between November 9 and 23, 2022.
The complaints all mentioned an unknown man looking inside mailboxes attached to homes in the city. Police say during the instances in which the man was confronted by homeowners, he claimed he was having mail delivered to their house. Some victims also reported receiving credit cards and bank accounts opened in their names without their knowledge or consent.
On Tuesday, London police announced two of three suspects have been located and arrested, while a third remains outstanding.
As a result, a 21-year-old Mississauga man and a 20-year-old Toronto man have been charged with varying counts of of mischief under $5,000 and fraud under $5,000. The Mississauga man also faces a single count of failing to comply with undertaking.
The third suspect, 23-year-old Wilky Vertus of Montreal, faces two charges by warrant of arrest with fraud under $5,000 and failing to comply with a release order.
