Huron County event invites employers to international workers event

Employers who are experiencing labour shortages can learn about where they can get more support at the upcoming Hiring International Workers – Huron County event.

Organized by the Huron County Immigration Partnership, the Chamber of Commerce for Goderich, Central and North Huron, as well as Community Futures Huron and WILL Employment Solutions, the event aims to help local employers explore what’s involved in hiring international workers.

Huron County Local Immigration Partnership Manager Mark Nonkes says they’re hoping to help local employers learn about the process.

“So getting connected with consultants who specialize in immigration law, inter-cultural communication training, diversity, equity and inclusion in the work place, re-locating international staff to our communities, on-boarding strategies for human resources,” he says.

Nonkes says there is a significant work force shortage in Huron County and there are opportunities for employers to bring international workers or people who have been internationally trained and who already live in Canada.

“There are some challenges, but there are consultants who are willing to meet with people to work through those challenges that there are to bring international staff, whether it is looking for appropriate housing or wading through the immigration law process,” he says.

The event will be held on May 25 at the White Carnation in Holmesville from noon to 3 p.m. It’s free and people can register by contacting home@huroncounty.ca
