Construction of a new roundabout is shutting down a main artery in the southwest end for the next seven months.
Starting Monday, Colonel Talbot Road between Southdale Road West and Byron Baseline Road will be closed. This is to allow for the construction of a new roundabout and upgrade underground infrastructure. As well, crews will be making the area more pedestrian and cyclist friendly with the addition of active transportation infrastructure including in-boulevard bike paths and new sidewalks.
“The project is designed to improve comfort and safety for all road users and help accommodate existing and future travel demand,” city officials said.
During the road work, local traffic will still be permitted between Byron Baseline and the residential development located at 2615 Colonel Talbot Road which is located approximately 300 metres north of Southdale.
The cost for the Southdale and Colonel Talbot roundabout is just under $9 million.
The bulk of the construction should be completed by December with a few finishing touches to be finished in spring 2024.
