Two teens charged in February gunfire probe

London police have charged a pair of young men and seized nearly $38,000 worth of drugs in a gunfire investigation launched two months ago.

At around 1:35 a.m. on February 22, 2023, officers attended the area of Shelborne Street, near Pond Mills Road and Commissioners Road East, after a 911 call had come in regarding the sound of gunshots in the area.

No injuries were reported at the time however, investigators did find evidence that a firearm had been discharged in the area where the reports were made.

On Monday, members of the London Police Service Guns and Gangs sections announced charges have been laid against two teenaged boys relating to the initial weapons investigation. Additionally a firearm, ammunition and several types of illegal substances have been seized.

Police say a search turned up the following items:

• A GSG .22 calibre rifle
• 24 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition
• 152 grams of fentanyl, valued at $22,800
• 133 grams of cocaine, valued at $13,300
• 16 grams of methamphetamine, valued at $1600
• 23 eight milligram Dilaudid (hydromorphone) pills, valued at $138
• $1,465 in Canadian cash

The two males, both aged 17, are jointly charged with possessing a firearm and discharging a firearm in a reckless manner.

One of the teens faces additional charges including two counts of careless storage of a firearm, two counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, two counts of possession of a schedule one substance to traffic, possessing a firearm with a serial number that’s been tampered with, failing to comply with a sentence and possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

Police say the second teen is also charged with four counts of possessing a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The youths cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They both made video court appearances on Monday.
