Saugeen First Nation is retaining a local security company to deter reckless behaviors on their recently acquired portion of Sauble Beach.
In a statement issued Saturday, the band says the move comes after several vehicles belonging to non-Saugeen First Nations members had assembled on the beach. There was also reports of “careless and reckless behaviour occurring on the beach.”
In response, they’ve hired Southwestern Defence, a Grey-Bruce private security agency, to deter “undesirable behaviour” and “moderate vehicular access” for all persons who aren’t Saugeen First Nations members.
The statement was sent out to make band members aware that the security company is there to “ensure unincumbered access to our Beach for our community members.” They ask if SFN members have any concerns, to notify an officer in the area.
SFN says they’re also engaged with OPP on working to ensure that there’s an increased level of police and security on the beach.
