Owen Sound man accused of stealing $10k worth of tools

Owen Sound police have laid charges against a man who allegedly stole a large amount of tools from a construction site.

According to police, the suspect attended the site on the west side of the city on Friday at around 1 p.m., when he located an unlocked work van parked nearby. Investigators say the man opened the vehicle and stole a number of tools said to be valued at around $10,000.

Workers discovered the theft a short time later and called police immediately.

Through a brief investigation, police were led to an apartment building not far from the construction site. Officers were able to identify, locate and arrest the accused and all of the stolen tools were recovered.

As a result, a 32-year-old Owen Sound man is charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

He is scheduled to appear in court next month.
