London man facing murder charges after person killed, officers shot

Charges have been laid against 42-year-old Adrian Neil Campbell following the death of a London man and a 15-hour police standoff that left two officers with serious injuries.

The incident took place in an apartment building at 621 Kipps Lane.

Officers were called to the location with reports of an unresponsive person around 5 a.m. Saturday. Police said a man was found with serious injuries, and he succumbed to his wounds.

The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Joel A. Cameron.

Police reportedly had reason to believe an armed person was inside the apartment complex, so the building was evacuated.

The suspect barricaded himself inside of a unit and police said they negotiated with him throughout the day.

During the altercation, Campbell live-streamed on Facebook and posted multiple photographs of police swarming his building. Other users attempted to plea with the suspect with many mentioning he is the father of a young boy.

“Through the course of the investigation and containment of the apartment, the suspect male discharged a firearm at police, resulting in two of our officers being injured,” said a statement from London police on Sunday.

The wounded officers were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

At 8:30 p.m., the suspect was finally arrested and taken into custody. A firearm was located by police.

Campbell is accused of second degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

The suspect appeared in London court on Sunday and remains in police custody. He will reappear in court on March 20.

The London Police Service is holding a press conference on Monday to provide more details on the officers’ conditions and further updates on their investigation.
