Susan Toth, chair of London Police Services Board resigns

The chair of the London Police Services Board (LPSB) has announced she is stepping down from her role.

Susan Toth, who was appointed as board chair in 2017, announced she would be resigning from the position during Thursday’s LPSB meeting. She later took to Twitter to send out a quick message, thanking the London Police Service for their work.

“Thank you [London police]. I am grateful to every single one of you for all you do. To those I have let down, I am truly sorry. Please know this was a difficult decision. But I am proud of what I have accomplished while on the Board,” read a tweet Toth posted.

Toth, who is known to speak out on topics including equity and social justice was London’s first woman of colour appointed as chair for the LPSB. In addition to her work with the board, Toth is a partner at Spero Law, specializing in labour law, human rights law and general civil litigation. She also teaches at Western University.

“This is no longer about me and my reasons for leaving. Now what is critical is pushing & advocating for & ensuring that [the City of London] seeks out and receives applications from Black and Indigenous candidates for this role,” Toth wrote in another tweet, urging individuals who are BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of colour), and interested in the role, to speak with her.

LPSB co-chair and lawyer Ali Chahbar was elected as the new chair, while board member and former London Abused Women’s Centre executive director Megan Walker takes Chahbar’s place as vice-chair.
