Grey Bruce Farmers’ Week was extremely successful during the first in-person event since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

After being forced to go virtual for the past two years, the agricultural trade show returned to the Elmwood Community Centre for its 57th edition, which featured commodity leaders from multiple sectors attending and speaking on the most important issues effecting local farmers today.

“We did find that there were some common trends, including profitability” said Coordinator Lorie Smith, who said the Dairy, Beef and Crops days featured the most crossover.

The major takeaway for Smith was farmer’s feeling that the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic is now behind us.

“People came away from the week knowing that we are getting back to normal. It’s an uplifting feeling, and a spirit that they came away with, knowing that Grey Bruce Farmers’ Week is going to continue. It was great to see the joy and energy,” Smith explained. “Everybody was just happy to be back, and there’s nothing better than being there in-person.”

Smith said the Crops and Dairy days had “higher numbers then we’ve seen in years, ” and thanked everyone involved, including the speakers, coordinators and volunteers for making the event a huge success.
