Police seek suspects after OPP officer shot

Ontario Provincial Police are searching for two suspects after an officer was shot near Hagersville.

On Tuesday evening, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) sent an emergency alert asking the public to shelter in place as officers searched for suspects who may be armed and dangerous.

OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk posted a video to the West Region OPP twitter feed describing an incident that took place in Haldimand County on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the video, around 2:40 p.m., a Haldimand County OPP officer was shot while responding to a vehicle in a ditch at Indian Line and Concession 14 of Walpole. Sanchuk says a man and woman fled the scene and police are now looking to the public for information.

Some media outlets have reported that the officer is dead, however, Sanchuk’s account only confirms that the officer was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Central Region OPP followed up with more information about one of the suspects. According to their alert, 25-year-old Randall McKenzie was last seen driving a black 2021 Chevrolet pickup truck, and the man is believed to be armed.

More to come.
