Lengthy drug investigation concludes with arrests

Two people face charges after nearly $60,000 worth of drugs was seized in Owen Sound.

The Grey Bruce Community Street Crimes Unit, alongside Street Crime Units from Collingwood and Huronia West, worked together on a recent drug trafficking investigation. On December 15, members of the Community Street Crimes Unit and officers from the Grey Bruce OPP conducted a traffic stop related to the investigation in the area of 16th Avenue East and 16th Street East in Owen Sound. The two people in the vehicle were arrested.

According to police, officers seized approximately $58,400 worth of drugs and approximately $6,600 worth of offence related property.

As a result, a 40-year-old from South Bruce Peninsula and a 63-year-old from Wasaga Beach are facing numerous drug related charges. One of the accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing, the other has been released with a court date pending at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound to answer to the charges.

“The conclusion of this drug investigation will undoubtedly have a long-term positive impact within the communities of Saugeen First Nations, Grey County, Bruce County, and Simcoe County. We will continue our commitment to addressing the drug related overdoses within these areas, with the ultimate goal of making our communities safer for all who live here,” said Inspector Paul Richardson, Detachment Commander of the Grey Bruce OPP.
