The proposed Milverton All-Wheels Park got a big funding boost with a $40,000 grant from The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group.
The grant is from its Learning, Engagement, and Accelerator Fund (L.E.A.F.)
“We had almost 100 applications and they were all worthy of supporting. Making the selection was difficult, but we feel the 2022 L.E.A.F. grant recipients represent a very impressive range of community causes that will result in a long-term community investment by funding the sharing of knowledge,” said Tim Shauf, president and CEO of The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group, in a statement released Thursday. “We are excited to see these programs and initiatives across Commonwell Country come to life and serve the people and communities for years to come.”
Tricia Holmes Storey, a member of the Optimists of Mornington and Milverton All-Wheels Park Committee, said they are very grateful to their local insurance providers.
“Van Allen Insurance in Listowel and Zehr Insurance in Milverton both reached out to our committee and let us know that there was this grant opportunity from the Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group,” Holmes Storey explained. “And they even offered to help us fill out application.”
Holmes Storey described what it was like finding out their application had been successful.
“I got the phone call while I was driving and I pulled over when I saw that it was from the Commonwell,” she explained. “And they told me that we were getting $40,000. I couldn’t believe it!”
It’s the biggest grant the committee has received to date.
“It’s really helping make our dream become a reality for an all-wheels park in Milverton,” she said.
Holmes Storey says the fundraising continues. They’ve raised $105,000 so far and their goal is $200,000. They are hoping to begin construction next summer at the Perth East Recreation Complex.
