Perth County residents asked to support the local humane society this season

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth has launched its Hope for the Holidays Campaign.

Director of Development Nick Burke is encouraging people to “Adopt, Extend, Give or Gift.”

He pointed out the support will help both the animals in-centre, as well as the many people and pets that will access services before the end of the year, including the pet pantry that began during the pandemic.

“We haven’t really seen a decrease in that need, and it has in fact increased since inflation started going up, and what not. So, there’s a growing need in our communities for it, and we’re hoping to expand that particular program as well as many other services that support the community in different ways,” he explained. “Consider adopting an animal if it’s an appropriate time for their family, and their lifestyle. We ask people to gift, give a gift of items that are on a wish list.”

Burke added they are always looking for volunteers to help in their  centres, whether is through fostering or the everyday work they do.

The campaign runs until December 31 to help raise critical funds for the people and pets who need them the most this holiday season.

“The Humane Society is not funded by any level of government, and we rely on the generosity of our donors and our fundraising efforts to continue providing critical services for people and pets in our communities,” stated Kathrin Delutis, chief executive officer, HSKWSP. “Some of these crucial services include our emergency boarding program, pet pantry program and our Community Vet Outreach program.”
