Remembrance Day ceremonies in Midwestern Ontario

Many Remembrance Day ceremonies are scheduled for Friday, November 11, across Midwestern Ontario. 

Bruce County:

The Remembrance Day ceremony in Kincardine begins at 10:00am at Legion Branch 183, followed by a service at the cenotaph at 11:00 a.m. 

Port Elgin’s Legion, Branch 340, will host a parade that will begin at 10:30 a.m, followed by a service at Cenotaph Park. The ceremony will also be streamed on Youtube and Facebook. The Legion will be open at 10:15 a.m. for veterans, legion members, and their families to watch the televised ceremony. 

The Walkerton Legion is inviting the community of Brockton to participate in its Remembrance Day ceremonies and parade to the cenotaph at 215 Jane Street, Walkerton. The ceremony will begin prior to 11:00 a.m. with a moment of silence to take place at 11:00 a.m. 

In South Bruce, a Remembrance Day parade will leave the Teeswater Fire Hall at 10:15 a.m. A service will later be held at the Mildmay cenotaph at 1:30 p.m. 

In South Bruce Peninsula, ceremonies will take place at 10:55 a.m. at the Wiarton cenotaph, and 11:00 a.m. at the Hepworth cenotaph. Also, the Deep Water Gallery will be open at 9:30 a.m. and will be presenting the artwork of military artist Sylvia Pecota.

Three Remembrance Day ceremonies will take place in the municipality of Arran-Elderslie. You can attend the Chesley, Paisley, or Tara cenotaphs at 11:00 a.m. 

There are three ceremonies scheduled in North Bruce Peninsula: Monument Corner Cenotaph at 9:15 a.m., Lion’s Head Cenotaph at 11:00 a.m., and Tobermory Cenotaph at 11:00 a.m. 

 

Grey County:

A Remembrance Day parade will leave the Owen Sound Royal Bank at 10:15 a.m. and make its way to the cenotaph, where a ceremony will take place. 

Wreaths will be laid at the Meaford cenotaph in front of Meaford Hall beginning at 10:30 a.m. Following the ceremony, a reception and opening of Meaford Remembers exhibit will be held in the Galleries until 2 p.m.

In Hanover, a ceremony will be held at the Legion, Branch 130, at 10:45 a.m. A parade from the legion to the cenotaph will follow. There will also be a luncheon at the legion following the service.

The Blue Mountains will have two ceremonies, one at the Thornbury cenotaph and the other at the Ravenna cenotaph. 

In Georgian Bluffs, a ceremony will be held at the Shallow Lake cenotaph at 9:30 a.m. 

 

Huron County:

A ceremony will be held in Bayfield at the Clan Gregor Square beginning at 10:45 a.m. 

Central Huron will hold a ceremony at 23 Albert St. – Cenotaph Park, beginning at 10:30 a.m. 

In Goderich, a parade will begin at 10:45am with a service to follow at the cenotaph at 11:00 a.m. 

In Seaforth, a parade will begin at 10:45 a.m. with a service to follow at the cenotaph at 11:00 a.m. A chili lunch will be served at the Legion afterwards. 

In Wingham, the ceremony begins at 10:45 a.m. at the cenotaph. That evening, a roast beef dinner will be served at the Legion with a special guest speaker. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., dinner starts at 7:00 p.m. and tickets are $20. 

In South Huron, a Remembrance Day service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the cenotaph. In Exeter, a Remembrance Day Banquet & Dinner will be held at the Exeter Legion, Branch 167 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20. 

 

Perth County:

In North Perth, residents are invited to attend a ceremony at the cenotaph in Listowel at 10:45 a.m. Everyone is invited back to Parkview Gardens for free homemade soup and sandwiches. 

In West Perth, the Mitchell Legion will be holding a ceremony at the cenotaph at 10:45 a.m. 

In Stratford, the ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the cenotaph. This year’s ceremony will include a parade, bands, the traditional laying of the wreaths and the return of a children’s choir.

St. Marys Mayor Al Strathdee will lead a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Town Hall cenotaph beginning at 10:45 a.m. The service in St. Marys will be streamed live on the town’s Facebook page for those unable to attend in person.

 

Wellington: 

In Wellington North, there will be two ceremonies. On is in Arthur, with a parade starting at 10:30 a.m. from the Legion to the 11:00 a.m. service at the cenotaph; and Mount Forest with a parade from the Legion at 10:30am to the cenotaph service at 11:00 a.m.
