West Grey mayor not re-elected in municipal election

The residents of West Grey have voted to bring back former mayor Kevin Eccles, and did not re-elect incumbent mayor Christine Robinson.

Robinson says although she wished the budget could have been lowered during her time as mayor, she doesn’t have regrets over how things panned out.

“I definitely would have wanted to go with a lower budget, but lower budgets means cuts to services, cuts to programs. So during my time as mayor, from my perspective, I didn’t want that to happen to citizens,” said Robinson.

In addition to the budget, Robinson says another top concern with citizens during this election was policing costs.

“Those were two of the predominant issues that were certainly at the forefront of this election. I indeed would have celebrated a different result, to be re-elected, but this is democracy and that is just fine in itself,” she added.

Robinson says it’s too soon to say whether or not she’ll run again in a future election, but “never say never!”

“I certainly have a lot to offer the community. Let’s just say politics is in my blood,” said Robinson. “I’m always there to help my community in whatever way I can, it’s just who I am. If somebody needs help, I’m there,” she added.

Robinson was the first female mayor in the municipality of West Grey since its amalgamation in 2001.
