Seaforth Community Hospital closing overnight, reduced weekend hours

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance said its emergency department in Seaforth will be closed overnight Friday and run with reduced hours over the weekend due to staff shortages.

Early Friday evening, HPHA officials announced Seaforth Community Hospital is temporarily shutting its emergency room doors starting at 7 p.m., and it will reopen Saturday morning. The emergency department will remain open until 5 p.m. Saturday, before closing again overnight. The hospital will reopen the department again at 7 a.m. Sunday, and resume its 24 hours daily schedule from there.

“Anyone requiring immediate medical attention should call 911. Paramedics will remain available to the community and will re-route to the nearest available Emergency Department to ensure local residents continue to have access to the emergency services they need,” a release from HPHA read.

Those with non-urgent health care needs are advised to call Health Connect Ontario at 811, which offers 24/7 support for non-emergent health-related questions and concerns.

The closest 24-hour emergency departments are as follows:

• Goderich – Alexandra Marine & General Hospital.

• Exeter – South Huron Hospital.

• Stratford – HPHA– Stratford General Hospital.

HPHA advises that you check with those emergency departments before attending to ensure they are operating on regular hours.
