Enbridge Inc. has provided a grant, through its Fueling Futures program, to make it possible to plant 2,500 trees in Ausable Bayfield watershed communities.
Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority Stewardship and Lands Manager, Nathan Schoelier, says the funding will benefit landowners. “It’s going to support planting trees across the watershed for landowners. Landowners who are interested in tree planting may call or email Ian Jean, our Forestry and Stewardship Land Specialist to inquire about the funding and other funding programs as well as tree planting on their property.”
Schoelier says the landowners do have to pay for the trees, but the Enbridge funding program offsets the cost up to one hundred per cent of the cost for tree planting projects.
“Tree planting projects through the Conservation Authority are for environmental improvement protection style projects and so re-forestation, wind breaks and water course buffers are examples of projects that would be eligible for the funding.”
Schoelier adds staff at the ABCA are happy to help landowners with species recommendation and site planning for the trees as well as help them work through the grant application. More information about the program can be found on the ABCA web site.
