Charges laid after drunk driver causes two separate crashes

Following a drunk driving rampage, a Seaforth man is facing a slew of charges after he caused two separate crashes.

On Friday, August 19th around 10:40 p.m., Huron County OPP officers responded to the scene of a crash that happened just east of Goderich on Highway 8. When they arrived, police found an SUV that had caught fire after hitting a shipping container off of the highway. The driver escaped the crash and ran off before police arrived. Officers later learned the same driver and vehicle were involved in another collision when the driver veered into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle before skidding off the road and hitting the shipping container.

Officers were able to locate the suspect driver a short time later following a search of the area, and the 32-year-old Seaforth native was placed under arrest. The suspect was prohibited from driving and was also driving without insurance.

The suspect remains in police custody and had a court date scheduled for August 24th in Goderich to answer to numerous charges, including impaired driving and failure to remain at the scene of a crash. If anyone witnessed these collisions or has any information, contact Huron County OPP or Crime Stoppers.
